A practical guide to coding interview preparation

Strong interview preparation combines technical foundations with repeatable problem-solving habits. The goal is not to memorize hundreds of answers, but to recognize patterns, explain decisions, and write correct code under time pressure.

Build the right foundation

Start with arrays, strings, hash maps, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, graphs, sorting, searching, recursion, and complexity analysis.

Use a repeatable interview process

Clarify the problem before coding, work through examples, state a simple solution, improve it, then test the final implementation.

  • Restate requirements
  • Ask about constraints
  • Explain tradeoffs
  • Test edge cases aloud

Practice communication

Interviewers evaluate how you reason as well as whether the code works. Explain assumptions, name variables clearly, and discuss time and space complexity.

Prepare with deliberate practice

Use WNC challenges to strengthen the patterns that appear repeatedly in technical interviews.
